Toronto Residents: What To Expect During a Breast Implant Procedure

Breast Implant Procedure

Have you always been unhappy with your breasts and wish they were larger or firmer?

Or have your breasts changed with age or since having children, and you want to regain your youthful curves?

No matter what your reasons are for wanting to improve your breasts, you can achieve your goals by getting breast implants Toronto. Available in both silicone and saline, breast implants can be chosen in a variety of sizes to fit your goals and unique body shape.

Considering breast implants? Here’s what you need to know about what to expect during the procedure.

Where You Will Get Your Breast Implants Toronto

Breast augmentation surgery is done in a hospital or surgical center and is usually performed on an outpatient basis. This means you will go home the same day rather than spending the night. After you have arrived and been prepped for your surgery, you will get local anesthesia and your breast area will be numbed—you will be awake during your procedure. In some cases, a surgeon will suggest you get general anesthesia and sleep through the surgery. This will not come as a surprise; your surgeon will talk about options with you before you arrive in the hospital room so you will know what to expect.

What to Expect During the Surgery

Once you are anesthetized, your surgeon will make an incision in either the crease under your breast, around your nipple, or under your arm. The surgeon will have decided prior to surgery which incision is needed and will explain to you why he or she made this decision.

Once the incision has been made, the surgeon will separate the breast tissue from the connective tissue and muscles of your chest to create a pocket. In some cases, the implant will be inserted under the muscle of the chest wall and, in other cases, the implant will go in front of the muscle. The saline or silicone implant will be inserted and centered behind the nipple.

If you’ve opted for saline implants, they will be inserted empty and filled after they are placed. Silicone implants, on the other hand, are pre-filled.

Once the implant is placed, the surgeon will close the incision with sutures and bandage it with surgical tape and/or skin adhesive. He or she will then insert your other implant in the same manner.

What Happens After Surgery?

Once you have recovered from anesthesia, the hospital staff will allow you some time to rest before allowing you to go home. You may experience some swelling, bruising, or soreness over the course of the next couple of weeks.

Consider wearing a sports bra or compression bandages during healing to give your new implants extra support and rest for the recommended time—usually a few weeks—before returning to any strenuous activities.

Breast Implants Toronto: Are They Right for You?

If you’re considering breast implants Toronto, schedule a consultation with a local plastic surgeon to discuss options. He or she will perform a physical evaluation, talk to you about your goals, and tell you the different options and costs for breast implant surgery.

Not sure which surgeon to talk to? Ask those in your circle for recommendations and do some online research to find a skilled, experienced surgeon near you.
