Lifetime’s Gwen Shamblin: Starving for Salvation is the latest project that is inspired by the controversial ministry of Gwen Shamblin. She became famous in the Weigh Down Workshop. It was a program for participants who wanted to reduce weight using religion. It became a multi-million-dollar enterprise due to its popularity. Still, it faced criticism from medical experts for using weight loss methods.
David Shambin, Gwen’s first husband, worked as the CEO of the enterprise while Gwen was the face of it. They married in 1978, were married for four decades, and then divorced. Due to their divorce, the community was outraged and believed that divorce was a big sin.
When Gwen founded the Remnant Fellowship, then David Shamblin started living a mysterious life. Although he was running the Weigh Down Workshop, he hardly appeared in the Remnant Fellowship events and church services.
So, we don’t know much about his location because he didn’t make his life public.
Why David Shamblin Avoided The Remnant Fellowship?
However, we don’t know the exact reason why David Shamblin limited himself from the Remnant Fellowship. Still, many people believe that being a Masters of Divinity scholar, he was feeling uncomfortable in marketing his wife’s lies about religion. Another interesting theory suggests David himself was fat and didn’t like Gwen’s doctrine of fitness.
Later, David and Gwen divorced, and he received a $3.2 million settlement from it, but it resulted in the revocation of the right on Gwen’s property despite him being the primary beneficiary named by Gwen. They have two children, Elizabeth Hannah and Micheal Shamblin, who become entitled to her wealth.
Although David was not active in the Remnant Fellowship, his children Elizabeth and Micheal were actively involved in it. Gwen claimed that the amount she earned went to the church equally, and Elizabeth also supported her mother’s claim.
However, the Remnant Fellowship said, “Almost two decades ago, they (Gwen, Michael, and Elizabeth) made the decision to donate around $10 Million from Gwen’s wealth share with Michal and Elizabeth to build the church and grounds of the Remnant Fellowship Church.”
